My War Against Text Messaging

I am once again in blog writing mode this Sunday Evening as I relax in my couch, wearing my favorite shorts and t-shirt, breaking in my brand new Mac Power Book, hehe.... eating the best desert ever made to man...cheesecake lol

For those of you who recently joined my friend's list, you will soon find out that other than DJing, and putting events together, writing is also my passion. So if reading is yours, then enjoy! Otherwise you can delete me from your friend's list. It's okay... I won't take it personal.

MY WAR AGAINST TEXT MESSAGING

Lately, I have declared a personal war against Texting. For all you people who cannot comprehend and think I am against texting, the word PERSONAL means that it's a battle I am fighting within myself. Not asking you to join in. I am simply sharing my experience and what I am doing about it, and perhaps you have experienced or thought the same. Please share it with everyone by commenting this bulletin below.

I believe SMS or as we calling TEXT messaging is a GREAT tool for communication. It's very useful in environments where otherwise we could not communicate with such ease. It was designed for use as it's name implies "Short Messaging" (SMS). This has been extremely useful for ME in my business - getting the word out to people about anything I am doing, communicating inside a noisy environment, sending a quick text to my staff, friends or family and many other things. For me, it has increased my overall productivity and my ability to get things done faster. In fact, I am not new to texting. 2-way pagers is how the entertainment industry has been communicating for YEARS. Way before texting even existed we all had Motorola pagers to network, email back and forth with colleagues. Then a Sidekick, then a Blackberries rule now... (I love mine!!)

OK, DO YOU LOVE IT OR HATE IT? MAKE UP YOUR MIND

After having said all this, I NOW believe that TEXTING has become the technological advancement that's on it's way to making us Anti-Social beings. More than often we no longer want to communicate via the way that Alexander Graham Bell intended us to... by picking up the damn phone! It's easier to send a text than to say hello. It avoids the formality our parents taught us, "hello, how are you, how’s everything?" I've gotten texts from people I haven’t spoken to all month with a direct question "u have the number to dominos pizza". If you text me, say hello first at least! Can you T9 ANTI-SOCIAL?

Everywhere I look, I find someone playing with their phone. Clubs, restaurants, bars, I even saw a guy having dinner with his girlfriend the other day texting back and forth on his blackberry! (Oh wait, that was me!

LOL). Lawmakers are now considering making a law that’s called TWD (Texting While Driving) - You can't be serious! But in reality, they can! I am guilty of this on many counts. Are you? Good. Keep reading.

CONFRONTATION? TRUE FEELINGS? HEY... TEXT ME, DONT TELL ME.

The thing with texting is now what you say, but how you say it. Quite often words get misconstrued at the other end. A LOL goes a long way and punctuation can be intepreted as mad, sad or happy...! Be careful!

Anyone can say ANYTHING they want to anyone without calling them and getting their immediate reaction. To some, it's easy to get your point across in a conversation uninterrupted. Most people who are "non confrontational" LOVE text messaging. Why? Because it's a way to tell someone ANYTHING without actually telling them. You don't have to face them. However, it does create an awkward situation when you have to see a person whom you have been texting for a while. It's like "are you the same person who has been texting me". For some shy people, it helps them break the ice.

Ladies, ever met a guy at a club? give him your number, and then he texts you on the initial call? That’s a should raise a flag right that he will probably won't be good in bed...lol just kidding. But this is a sign that this person might not be good at conflict resolution or overall communication. Think about it, they TEXT initially to make the first contact instead of calling? Pathetic! Ladies HOW many guys have you met in a club or anywhere else that has done this? Follow what I am saying now? Good... There is more shit I gotta say.

Arguments? Here is the personal favorite. As I said in the beginning of my blog, this happened from personal experience where I pretty much snapped and hit send, and expressed feelings that normally I would not have in person. Especially to a 6'1 Amazon-ish woman who can prob kick my ass! So I texted how I felt... and guess what happens next? as you know in the world of texting, once you hit send............

......yup! you guessed it... .you can't take it back LOL

This creates and provokes the person to also fire back messages that start coming 1 of 10 and shit - In reality this could have been a 10 minute conversation to address and fix your issue. However via SMS, it became a war of misspelled and abbreviated words. I was fighting 2 different wars, one with the person, and another against the 160 character limitation to which many times I lost.... (Sending 5 of 20) lol

What did I learn from all this? that I have enabled this type of behavior on my own and have dragged others in the process. So I am fixing it.

It's much easier for us to express ourselves via text without saying it in person. Written word is always a preferred method of getting your point across. Shit, I had a girlfriend once who left me via text. Ouch!

While sometimes it's useful to communicate true feelings, in the end it creates a bigger WALL, a wall that you cannot bring down without a cell phone nearby. I had another near text argument experience the other day with someone else, and I told her pick up the phone and call me. We resolved our difference in about 15 minutes and the world was a better place.

RULE OF THUMB - IF YOU'RE OVER 160 CHARACTERS, CALL ME!

So this is my mission, those who have my cell and choose to accept it. You now have to call me if you have something long to say.

Please note that I will continue to use text messaging for business as usual, but when I want to express how I feel, OR if my point takes me more than one text to get it across, expect your phone to ring with my voice on the other end. Try this, and you too will see the difference.

Thank You Aventura

We always tend to complain when things go wrong, and when we should have "gotten" something and we didnt. Especially me, I am quick to complain about things, and point out shit....get controversial when something is just plain wrong... and rarely do we turn that energy into positive thougths. But NOT this time.

I would like to take this time to write this note to Thank Grupo Aventura. WHO very humbily did something that even made a seasoned veteran like me, very nervous!

This special Thank you goes to Romeo of Grupo Aventura who accepted an invitation to my Birthday party, held in NJ Last Thursday 3/10/05, and attended... Drove for about 1 hour into a suburban town in New NJ ( Diva Lounge - Montclair NJ)

Anthony & Johnny Marines Arrived to the club very humble, and didnt even care about walking in thru the front door... To some extent I was even embarrased of the club security trying to act like the robots they are.... and ask em to take off his hat and acting stupid....... a situation which I quickly handled - But Anthony quickly made me feel alot better, he said "dont worry about it, it's your b-day ma nigga, dont stress..its cool".

I have been tossing the idea around to Johnny Marines all day (their manager) and he wasnt sure whether it was gonna happen, to my suprise, Romeo called Johnny and told him......"Tell Frikkiao, we will be right there" Trust me Romeo, I owe you one. :)...and I wont forget... :)

This b-day was very special to me, as successfully I reuinted with many of my long time friends who have been in my circle since the very early stages of my carreer, and Romeo was one of them I wished that Lenny could have come. Romeo was also very suprised to see my good friend Lisa Rodriguez (Sirius Radio), another person whom he will also never forget during the early stages of Aventura's carreer. Last nite made me realize that I have friends in this business and they , and it's always the same friends who stay around and will continue to stay around for a long time.

It's funny that out of the many times I have been around these guys - whether be in working mode or hangout, It was the 1st time I was actually nervous - because I wanted to make sure they were treated right even by club staff, and people wasnt walking up to them bothering them. From the smile on Romeos Face, I believed they werre pretty happy with where they were, and the company around them. Johnny even told me "I am coming back to this place"

Luis Jimenez (Mega 97.9) - El Responsable de traer El moviento del Reggaeton a New York.

Un Poco de Historia del como llego el Reggaeton a Nueva York.

Aunque el Reggaeton es un genero que venia como una tormenta invevitable a la Gran Manzana, la cuidad en cual residen muchos consumidores y amantes de este genero - una vez considerado como el "undergound", todavia hay muchos que no tienen en su mente la menor idea, o se le "olvida" que unos de los principales pioneros en asistir en que este moviento llegara a Nueva York de forma Agresiva, fue una persona llamada Luis Jimenez - Conductor del programa "El Vacilon de la Manana", Transmitido atravez de Mega 97.9 FM en NYC.

Muchas veces eschucho a Disc Jockeys radiales, principalmente en las emisoras de NY ser supuestamente pioneros del genero - los que hicieron el reggaeton "grande" en Nueva York... (yeah right!) - cada vez que estan en el aire, se llenan la boca en decir que ellos fueron los que prendieron los motores de la popularidad del Genero en la cuidad - Cuando en realidad, lo que estaban haciendo era solo siguiendo los pasos de este tremendo visionario, llamado Luis Jimenez - persona la cual se merece sus meritos por sus ezfuerzos en que este fenomeno llegara a estos lados.

En el año 2000, se da comienzo el primer concierto bailable de reggaeton en la cuidad de Nueva York, titulado "El Reggaeton de NY".... tomado a cabo en el mundial famoso Club Exit, de NYC.

Ahi fue donde comenzo todo. Bajo el nombre de Mondi Entertainment; la compania encargada de asistir & organizar el evento junto a Luis Jimenez, el señor Ramoncito Diaz (Mondi) - otra persona que tambien se merece sus meritos por contribuir el empuje al Genero en Nueva York, organizaron el evento que inicio el movimento y dio a conocer este genero fuera del "underground", ya muy popular en las calles de Nueva York.

Desde Puerto Rico, Don Chezina, Karel y Voltio, Lito y Polaco, Speedy, DJ Dicky, DJ Metro - Fueron algunos de los Artistas presente en este show. Don Chezina con su "Tra-Tra" fue unos de los Artistas que tambien con su hit en las calles de New York, pudo darle su empuje a este show. Esa cancion se escuchaba en todos los carros, clubs, radio, etc.

La Asistencia se completo con los siguientes Disc Jockeys New Yorkinos en cabina: DJ Alex Sensation, DJs Johnny Famolary & Norty Cotto, y finalmente, este Servidor.... DJ Frikkiao.

Un total de 4,152 personas asistierton a este evento, abriendole las puertas en NYC al genero conocidos por muchos como el "underground" y mas importante, abierndole los ojos a muchos "no-creedores" del potencial que tiene este fenomeno que en Puerto Rico es dominante.

Este evento tambien fue el PRIMER evento Latino en la discoteca EXIT, cuyas presentaciones anteriores solo eran de origen Americano.

Tomar nota de que tambien no hubo ni UN SOLO incidente de peleas en el show completo.
La fila afuera de la discoteca comenzo a formarse desde las 6:00pm - tomando en cuenta que la misma estaba programada abrir a las 9:00 PM.

Aun me recuerdo Mondi explotandome el celular, "llega rapido, hay una fila a la vuelta de la esquina". Increible, pero cierto. Definitivamente este show hizo historia y para mi fue un privilegio ser parte de el.

Seguido de este evento, la compañia Mondi Entertainment, a cargo de Ramon Diaz y Luis Jimenez, producieron mas shows en los varios clubs en la cuidad de NY, Filadelfia y Washington. Discotecas como Amazura, CLub Mirage, Jimmy's Bronx Cafe, fueron algunas de las visitadas por various interpretes del Genero.

En este tiempo se dieron a conocer en NY dos Disc Jockeys muy populares [en aquel tiempo en la cuidad de Springfield, Massachusets] conocidos como DJ Creme y Kazzanova, que hoy ocupan la posicion en el programa radial "El Reggaeton de NY", escuchado por la emisora Latino Mix en NYC. Apropiadamente, el Titulo del show "El Reggaeton de NY".. creacion de Ramon Diaz "Mondi", la persona responsable por crear este programa y venderle el concepto a Latino Mix.

Despues de ese momento, todo es historia. Hoy, se producen un sin numeros de conciertos y shows en la cuidad de Nueva York, brindandole los populares artistas del Genero al publico en general, lo mejor del "perreo y sanungueo". Todo iniciado por la vision de una persona con los suffucientes recursos para hacerlo. Luis Jimenez.

En mi mente, Luis deberia ser reconocido como uno de los verdaderos pioneros del genero cuando se refiere a su explosion en Nueva York, no solamente en los clubs, si no tambien en las emisoras radiales.

Para mi fue todo un privilegio en haber participado y ser parte de este historico evento.

Un abrazo de hermano!!,Quiero referirme a las declaraciones que ha hecho "AMARFIS" en tu pagina,la cual es muy leida por todos.

Soy amigo y respeto mucho el trabajo de todos los que estan en este 'NEGOCIO DE LA MUSICA", pero creo que no es necesario llegar al extremo de ofendernos el uno al otro,es uno de los motivos por el cual me he ausentado de la tarima, aunque ya estamos de regreso ,hicimos una bullita con una prueba de tipico x pero ahora ya estamos de nuevo con la banda..(banda x).

Nos pisoteamos de tal manera que otras nacionalidades se rien y se benefician de esto,que no es mas que una PAYASADA DE MAL GUSTO .

Hermano Amarfis!!! Sigue tu carrera trankilo papo no le heches mas leña al fuego, eso no te conviene nii le conviene al negocio. Tu trabajo es y sera respetado por tus actuaciones y recuerda lo que somos y de donde venimos.

Creo que en vez de hablar uno del otro deberiamos unirnos de tal manera que volvamos a ser lo que eramos antes por lo menos en NY - donde las orquesta locales han o hemos pasado a ser titeres de las DISCOTECAS que quieren pagarnos los que a ellos les da la gana....Y hay directores de grupos que se conforman con eso y a veces con nada.

Donde algunos grupos que quedan en NY con tal de que los suenen por un par de minutos en las estaciones son capaz de dar hasta el ....!!!!!

Esto tiene que cambiar!!!!! si no vamos a desaparecer por completo!!!!

Recuerda que ya no contamos con las Disqueras que ahora hay que luchar por uno mismo y que eso de copiar ha existido siempre....

Reconozco el buen trabajo que has hecho con tu musica y la pegada que has tenido en nuestro pais y fuera de el. Te felicito. Pero tambien tu tienes que reconocer que hay otros como "Julian"que han hecho su fila como tu y que le llego su turno...El tambien esta haciendo su trabajo y luego vendran otros.

Creo y estoy seguro de que si nos unimos y hacemos una sola compañia donde todos podamos expresarnos y como otras asociaciones trabajar juntos volveremos a ser lo de antes..

Y esto no solo va para AMARFIS, si no tambien para RAUL"oro solido" JAVIER "mala fe" RICKY "soberbia" SANDRO "punto fijo" ELVIS "banda loca" y demas grupos...

En una entrevista exclusiva con el controversial Disc Jockey de New York, “DJ Frikkiao”, El Lider de La Banda de Atakke Amarfis aquino se sienta hablar y se desahoga! declarandose el verdadero Rey del Mambo. Dice que los Merengueros de su linea son todos unos copiones. Comienza diciendo que siempre observaba, pero nunca decia nada. “Estoy Jarto y Se solto el diablo” nos Cuenta Amarfis.

En esta entrevista, el inteprete de “El Bacalao” acaba a otros merengueros de forma agresiva! - Merengueros tal como Jose Pena Suazo, lider the La Banda Gorda fue uno de los primeros - “Pena Suazo se esta copiando mi linea”, declara Amarfis. “Despues que se la pasaba acabandome en programas de Television y Radio en Republica Dominicana, ahora quiere venir a grabar en mi linea porque sabe donde esta el apoyo del pueblo”. Anade Amafis. “Voy a empezar a llamarlo La Banda Copia - Que siga grabando sus merenguitos romanticos y siga vendiendose como “humilde”, que no esta enganando a nadie con eso. Ademas, el no vende discos” continua Amarfis. “Yo Vendo mas que todos, porque mis fanaticos saben donde esta la calidad y el verdadero mambo” continua Amarfis..

“Julian lo mismo! todos esos merengueros viven siguiendo mis pasos, escuchando mis discos, para despues copiarse” nos dice. Esta linea yo he estado haciendo lo que me da mi gana con ella. La pongo a mi manera, la cambio cuando quiero, y otros merengueros siempre siguen mis pasos. Explica el Interprete del “Lamento Boliviano”

Amarfis le cuenta a DJ Frikkiao, que aunque graba temas romanticos para la radio, su primer amor es la linea rapida o mas conocida como Merenguer de Calle.

“Sigo con mi merengue de calle, Mi publico en las discotecas y los disc jockeys fueron los primeros en apoyarme”. “Ahora los que antes criticaban la linea estan grabando la misma. En la lista negra estan Pena Suazo, Diomedes, Julian, entre otros que “no voy a mencionarlos para no darle promocion” explica el Artista.

“Que se pongan las pilas porque en el 2005, no me aguanto y me voy a poner necio como estan haciendo otros, y no aguantandole estupiedeses a nadie. “yo me he fajado en lo mio, y mi publico se mantiene fiel conmigo”.

Amarfis Aquino ya con su cuarta produccion titulada “On My Own” - “Libre al Fin” esta alcanzando los primeros lugares de ventas en Nueva York, al igual que en Republica Dominicana y Europa.
